Dissecting WordPress Themes

Monday, January 24th, 2011

There are different parts of wordpress themes. The first parts are the extreme ends of the page, namely the header and footer. The header is the upper part of the blog while the footer is at the opposite end, the bottom. Since you cant cover your content with too much design in the middle, most of your blogs background and theme is found on these parts.

The content is obviously the middle part of the blog, or wherever you will find blog posts. Theres very little design here, except that youll be editing font style, font, and everything related to text (i.e. Title, tags, etc.)

And then we have the sidebars. Most widgets for free wordpress themes go here. You also post links in these little boxes on the side.

Knowing these different parts are important whether youre downloading one thats readily made or customizing one for your own, because either way its going to affect the overall appearance of your blog.
